Nostalgia, emotions and the use of feelings is nowaday’s game.

Nostalgic Marketing is called. Brands know it, use it… And that is the reason why this year (not coincidentally), we are dressing up our feet with revivals of sneakers that have succeed years ago as well as the new edition that came out a few months ago of the well-known Nike Jordan model was -literally- sold out before getting on stores.

When a brand uses nostalgia to launch a “new” product, it automatically triggers memories in the hearts of their loyal consumers. And just because they are loyal, they will respond by going back to the store to buy X product so in order to relive those wonderful memories. And now that I’m mentioning about nostalgia… I will be quick and straightforward: flip-flops for daily use are here to stay. And I know what you’re thinking, because I thought the same.

It turns out that this fashion flow -that triumphed in Spain specially to the ones now dealing with their thirties-, has never stop to succeed outside our country. But apparently this spring-summer 2014 has invaded our borders and, although it is hard to believe, is becoming widespread. And maybe not all of us can dare with the white and blue flip-flops of Adidas -first icon of this trend- to combine with a tailored suit to go to the office… But do not worry much, because from now and until further notice, we can also wear something very similar to these “sandals” and that we call Ugly shoes -without having to make excuses like: I use them because they are comfortable-. And that’s not all, because this year’s trend is to also wear them with white socks!

It all started on autumn-winter 2013/2014 catwalk of Jacquemusen in Paris Fashion Week, with its outfits combined with the typical pool slippers in many different versions. Following this trend Marc Jacobs proposed a more ‘stylized’ creation and why not, now Céline has also jumped on the bandwagon. Oh lá la…

La nostalgia, las emociones y provocar sentimientos en el consumidor es lo que se lleva ahora. Marketing nostálgico lo llaman. Las marcas lo saben, lo utilizan… Y por eso este año (y no por casualidad), vistes tus pies con revivals de sneakers que triunfaron en su día y la nueva edición que salió hace unos meses de las mitiquísimas Nike Jordan se agotó –literalmente- antes de pisar las tiendas.

Cuando una marca recurre a la nostalgia para lanzar un “nuevo” producto, automáticamente provoca recuerdos en los corazones de sus consumidores fieles. Y como son fieles, estos responden volviendo a la tienda para adquirir X producto y revivir aquellos maravillosos años. Y hablando de nostalgia… Seré rápida y directa: vuelven las chanclas para la piscina; y sé lo que estás pensando porque yo pensé lo mismo, pero así es.

Resulta que esta moda -que en España triunfó sobre manera entre los que ahora lidian con los 30-, nunca ha dejado de funcionar fuera de nuestro país. Al parecer esta primavera-verano 2014 ha invadido nuestras fronteras y, aunque cueste de creer, se está masificando. Y puede que no todos nos atrevamos con las Adidas blancas y azul marino (icono de esta tendencia), para combinar precisamente con un traje de oficina… Pero no te preocupes mucho, porque desde ya y hasta próximo aviso, lo que también se lleva es algo muy parecido y que llamamos Ugly shoes: (zapatos feos) sin tener que excusarse en que son cómodos para llevarlos. Y además ahora hacerlo con calcetines blancos al más puro guiri.

Todo empezó en el desfile de la colección otoño-invierno 2013/2014 de Jacquemusen París Fashion Week, con sus outfits combinados con la clásica chancla de piscina en todas sus versiones. Luego a esta tendencia se sumo Marc Jacobs proponiendo algo más ‘estilizado’ y, por qué no, ahora también se ha subido al carro Céline. Oh lá la…
