Born and raised in the neighborhood of La Vila Olímpica, sports and surf lifestyle fan, student of advertising and passionate about music… Meet Le Cucut!
Pablo is a talkative 20 year old boy with great aesthetic and sex-appeal who already in his childhood wanted to be big doing his first steps as an actor… It is now better known as Le Cucut new resident Dj. at the relaunched Teatre Principal, entertaining Thursday’s nights in Barcelona always offering as he declares: ‘a new way of understanding the party’.
Nacido y crecido en el barrio de la Vila Olímpica, fanático del deporte y del estilo de vida que fomenta el surf, estudiante de Publicidad y apasionado de la música… Pablo, este joven de 20 años con don de gentes, una estética y sex-appeal que le acompaña y que ya en su infancia quería ser grande haciendo sus primeros pinitos como actor… Es ahora más conocido como Le Cucut, nuevo Dj. residente del relanzado Teatre Principal que ameniza las noches de los jueves en Barcelona ofreciendo según él mismo dice ‘una nueva forma de entender la fiesta’.
1) As far as I know… Your passions could be summarized in music and surfing. How much surf there in your music? And… How much music is in your surf? The feeling is the same: satisfaction, the vibe… On the beach you do play with waves, and at the disco you do play with your audience.
Por lo que yo sé… Tus grandes pasiones podrían resumirse en la música, el surf. ¿Cuánto de surf hay en tu música? Y… ¿Cuánto de música hay en tu surf? La sensación es la misma: a tope, subidón… En la playa juegas con las olas, y en la disco juegas con tu público.
2) Where does your love for music come from? My mother. She always used to pick me up at school with a Renault 4 (that I have now inherited), playing great songs of Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Françoise Hardy, Lou Bega…
¿De dónde viene o quien te inculcó tu amor por la música? Mi madre. Siempre me venía a buscar al colegio con un Renault 4 (el mítico 4 latas) que ahora he heredado yo, con la radio a tope sonando temazos de Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Françoise Hardy, Lou Bega…
3) And your love for surfing? I started skating in my childhood, then I moved to surfing. And especially because I live just in front of the beach.
¿Y por el surf? Ya de pequeño empecé con el skate, luego me enganché al surf. Y sobre todo por que vivo delante de la playa.
4) What is your favorite music style? Oh dear… There are so many!
¿Cuál es tu estilo musical favorito? Buff… Es que hay tantos…
5) Do you sing in the shower? Nope. I dance!
¿Eres de los que canta en la ducha? No, bailo!
6) How and When did you start DJing? The truth is that I started DJing as a result of surfing and also because the world of Djing has always caught my attention. Three years ago I went to Del Razo beach (Galicia) to work as a surf teacher. Upon arrival just during my first swim I dislocated my left arm. I had to go back to Barcelona and spend the rest of my summer with a sling and I thought… Now what I’m going to I do?! So I decided to buy myself a Dj. board and I started DJing since today.
¿Cómo, cuándo y por qué empezaste a pinchar? La verdad es que empecé a pinchar a raíz del surf y también por que el mundo del Dj. siempre me había dado cierta envidia. Hace tres años me fui a trabajar como monitor de surf a la Playa del Razo (Galicia). Nada más llegar, en mi primer baño me disloqué el brazo, tuve que volver a Barcelona y pasarme el resto del verano con un cabestrillo y entonces pensé… ¿Y ahora qué hago? Decidí comprarme una tabla de mezclas, empecé a pinchar y hasta hoy.
7) Why ‘Le Cucut’? Three reasons: I wanted something with a French twist. A non english name without a specific meaning. And mainly because of the wooden wall cucu watch it is in my parents house. Also because of my father, who’s a graphic designer and recently has became a watchmaker. He has made the giant cucu watch you can see on stage while I’m Djing, therefore I can link their work with mine.
¿Por qué ‘Le Cucut’? Por tres motivos: Quería algo con un toque francés. Un nombre que no fuera en inglés ni que quisiera decir algo concreto. Y por el cucut de madera que hay en casa de mis padres. Además mi padre es diseñador gráfico y desde hace unos años también maestro relojero. El cucut gigante que hay en el escenario cuando pincho lo hizo él y así es también la forma de vincular su trabajo con el mío.
8) Why Le Cucut is ‘a new way of understanding partying’? What makes you so special and sets you apart from the thousands of Dj.’s that already exist in Barcelona and in the world? Because my Live Set is conventionally spectacular. To my sessions I recreate a real living room, so when I’m djing I feel at home!
¿Por qué se habla de Le Cucut ‘una nueva manera de entender la fiesta’? ¿Qué te hace tan especial o te diferencia de los miles de Dj. que existen en Barcelona y ya no digamos del mundo? Porque mi puesta en escena es espectacular dentro de lo convencional. Para mis sesiones monto un salón-comedor y así cuando pincho me siento como en casa!
9) How do you prepare your sessions? I do not prepare them. I’m such a mess… (laughs).
¿Cómo preparas tus sesiones? No me las preparo. Soy un desastre… (risas).
10) Despite your live sessions… Do you create your own themes? Not at the moment, but I will. I am aware it’s necessary if I want to succeed, but for now I am focusing on the scenery.
A parte de tus mezclas… ¿Creas también tus propios temas? De momento no, pero lo acabaré haciendo. Soy consciente que es necesario para triunfar, pero por ahora me centro más en la escenografía.
11) Tell me more about your Dj. career until today. After djing the first summer, a good friend and I, set up a small business to organize parties called Dirty Minds. We were so young and had no idea of anything (laughs), but we dressed with a shirt, lots of enthusiasm and did come out quite well. Then my first official bolus was in a small local in Las Ramblas named Sportbar and with another friend who was also djing we create Only2Dj’s and that’s how it really started my career as a Dj.
Háblame de tu carrera como Dj. hasta el día de hoy. Tras el primer verano pinchando, un buen amigo y yo montamos una pequeña productora de fiestas a la que llamamos Dirty Minds. Eramos unos críos y no teníamos ni idea de nada (risas), pero nos vestíamos con camisa, le poníamos ganas y no salió bastante bien. Luego mi primer bolo oficial lo hice en un pequeño local en las Ramblas que se llama SportBar. Con otro amigo que también pinchaba montamos Only2Dj’s y es entonces cuando realmente empezó mi carrera como Dj.
12) Tell me more about your trip to New York city… Oh yeah… It was awsome! My friend Esteve (with who I created Dirty Minds) went to study in New York. Both together we are good team, so we decided to be partners and to create Le Cucut concept. I take care of the live session and he’s in charge of marketing. One day he called me and said, ‘Hey bro, you have to come to DJing in New York! I will organize a big party and with the profits we will fund your trip till here’. So we did it. We rented an amazing bar in Soho called Liberation Club, for that specific party I prepared the session for once (haha…) and the party was a real hit! In fact, I spent nine amazing days in NY also surfing at Rockaway Beach which was an awsome experience!
Cuéntame más sobre tu viaje a Nueva York… ¡Seee… Fue muy guapo! Mi amigo Esteve (con el que en su día creamos Dirty Minds) se fue a Nueva York a estudiar. Hacemos un buen equipo, decidimos asociarnos y crear Le Cucut. Yo me encargo del directo y él del marketing. Un día me llamó y me dijo: ‘tío, tienes que venir a pinchar a Nueva York. Así que vamos a organizar un fiestón y con las ganancias financiaremos tu viaje hasta aquí’. Alquilamos un local muy guapo en el Soho que se llama Liberation Club, para esa fiesta sí me preparé la sesión y la fiesta fue un exitazo. De hecho, fueron nueve días increíbles y además surfear en Rockaway Beach fue toda una experiencia…
13) Normally, where can we see you djing? Most of the weekends at the SurfHouse Restaurant in Barcelona (22, Almirall Aixada street, 08003 Barcelona).

14) And since a week ago… Every thursdays you’re the new resident Dj. at the relaunched Teatre Principal in Barcelona. Tell me more… I have always believed that if you want to be somebody, you have to not stop trying hard and do something continued. My dream is to live by Djing and creating great parties all over the world and also to have some sort of semi-fixed project in Barcelona. This new adventure started a few months ago after directly contacting with Teatre Principal. They really liked my proposal and since a week ago I am the new resident DJ every Thursdays (27, Las Ramblas street, 08002 Barcelona).
Y desde hace una semana… Cada jueves eres el nuevo Dj. residente del relanzado Teatre Principal en Barcelona. Cuéntame más… Siempre he creído que si quieres llegar a ser alguien, hay que no dejar de intentarlo y hacer algo continuado. Mi sueño es vivir de esto, hacer bolos y fiestas por todo el mundo y tener algo semi-fijo en Barcelona. Hace unos meses contacté directamente con el Teatre Principal, les gustó mi propuesta y desde hace una semana soy el nuevo Dj residente todos los jueves (La Rambla, 27, 08002 Barcelona).
15) Once I’ve heard you saying you’re a Barcelona lover… Tell me more about your neighbourhood you’ve born. ¿Has this inspired you in your music? Not particularly, but I do love Barcelona and I love my life in the neighborhood La Vila Olímpica: is next to the sea, I can practice my favorite sport and I do know everyone around there.
En una ocasión te oí decir que eres un enamorado de Barcelona… Háblame del barrio en el que naciste, ¿Crees que influye en tu música? No especialmente, pero me encanta Barcelona y me encanta mi barrio de toda la vida: la Vila Olímpica. Está cerca del mar, puedo practicar mi deporte favorito y además conozco a todo el mundo.
16) Tell me about your favorite place or a special place in your city and choose a song that you think defines Barcelona. Well, probably… My favorite place is to walk around the containers from the port. When I was a child I used to walk that area together with my father and my skate while he was jogging. And without a doubt the song that best describes Barcelona for me is ‘In the summertime’ by Mungo Jerry:
Tu lugar favorito o recomiéndame un lugar de tu ciudad y escoge una canción que en tu opinión defina Barcelona. Pues probablemente… Mi lugar favorito es la zona de los containers del puerto, me encanta pasear por ahí. De pequeño acompañaba a mi padre con mi skate mientras él salía a correr. Y sin duda la canción que para mí mejor define Barcelona es ‘In the summertime’ de Mungo Jerry:
17) And you do also study advertising at the University… Does it have something to do with your first steps as an actor that I’ve seen on the internet? The truth is that after school I didn’t know what to study and it has nothing to do with my acting in the movie ‘Rivals’ by Fernando Colomo… Suddently I decided to study advertising and the truth is that since I’ve created Le Cucut’ I am really enjoying my career, because I’m linking every university work with my personal Djing project. In the end… You have to advertise yourself if you want to be somebody, right?
Y además estudias publicidad en la universidad… ¿Tiene algo que ver con tus pinitos como actor que circulan por internet? La verdad es que no sabía que estudiar y no tiene nada que ver con el cameo como actor que hice en ‘Rivales’ de Fernando Colomo… Al final me decidí por Publicidad, y la verdad es que desde que creamos Le Cucut estoy disfrutando mucho de la carrera, por que estoy vinculando todos los trabajos a mi proyecto y por que al final… Uno tiene que publicitarse si quiere llegar a ser alguien.
18) Now everyone is Djing: actors, models, even bloggers… What’s your opinion about this? Well… In the end it is just one more way to advertise yourself and a DJ booth it is a great advertising support.
Ahora todo el mundo pincha: Actores, modelos, incluso bloggers… ¿Tu qué opinas? Bueno… No deja de ser una manera de hacerse publicidad; y la cabina de un Dj. es un muy buen soporte publicitario.
19) How and where do you see yourself in one year?, And in 10 years? In Barcelona, as always. Djing, surfing and trying to improve. And in 10 years… I see myself living in ‘Any given place’ as it is said in the Dorian song:
