Cool hunting: Catmania trend

I see cats everywhere…

Welcome to the animal world! This trend lives with us since a few months ago, showing us our wild side through the animal we choose to wear. Nothing is by chance, because whatever is the animal we have chosen to wear stamped on our shirt, shorts, scarf, hat, shoes, bag and/or in all kinds of accessories… Speaks for us and described us without words!

But among all the animals, there is one that is now the Number One, the star of this new aesthetic trend and that is CATS.

As usual, the visionary fashion designer Miuccia Prada, was responsible for starting this trend by adding adorable kittens in her clothes for her Miu Miu Spring – Summer 2010 collection. Later the half English half Brazilian Young fashion designer Charlotte Olympia, triumphed with its Ballerina’s collection decorated with cat ears and faces, currently used by the well-known It-Girls and Fashionistas of the world.

Since always… Dogs are “the man best friend” and cats are the undoubtely the image of “the independence”. Today we are living times of recession, however it should now be the time to cooperate, collaborate, join forces and work together; and apparently now it is also the time to claim our place in the world, and this has a lot to do with economic policies related austerity (which each country has to look for itself), as we have been constantly listening in Europe… So again, nothing is by chance.

It turns out that now cats are not just hanging around home or walking on the streets, now cats are demonstrating to who’s wearing them… That we know what is our place, to which group we belong to, where are we going and more importantly: what do we want.

In fact, wearing a cat printed garments means we are telling the world: Yes I can. Because I am self-sufficient, capable of finding solutions and able to manage problems by myself.

Nowadays we’ll find hundreds of examples of animal printed items especially cats. If you’d liked to dress up your feet… What about a lovely cat printed socks or shoes? Get them now in Topshop, as well as shirts and all kinds of unimaginable accessories… Even their shopping bag of this season has the image of a cat!

And how about a headband or earrings that say Meow from New Look? Hats with kitty ears; tops, dresses, t-shirts and skirts and all kind of clothes with printed cats in Mango and Forever21 and a huge variety of versions for all tastes in almost every Low Cost brand. And don’t forget household items from Venca and Urban Outfitters with cat patterns!

But wait a second… Because that’s is not all! This successful trend, which has became so popular to the point that it has been already considered ‘the next big trend’ it has not only to do with cats but also with any feline animal! And as an example: I introduce you to this new Australian brand We Are Handsome with wild animal prints, especially tigers and exotic animals that make women even more sexy than it already is by nature. Do you dare to try it?

¡Bienvenidos al mundo animal! Esta tendencia hace meses que ya convive con nosotros, mostrando nuestro lado más salvaje a través del animal que escojamos llevar. No es una casualidad. Sea cual se el animal que hayamos escogido para lucir estampado en nuestra camiseta, pantalón, bufanda, gorro, zapatos, bolso y todo tipo de complementos… Habla por nosotros y nos describe sin necesidad de palabras.

Más tarde la joven diseñadora, mitad inglesa mitad brasileña Charlotte Olympia, triunfó también con su colección de ballerinas con orejitas y caritas de gato que causaron furor entre todas las It Girls y fashionistas del planeta.

De sobras es sabido que, así como el perro es ‘el mejor amigo del hombre’, el gato es la viva imagen de la “independencia”. En la actualidad vivimos en una profunda época de recesión y, aunque parezca mentira; aunque ahora debería ser el momento de cooperar, colaborar, unir fuerzas y trabajar juntos… Al parecer es también ahora el momento de reivindicar nuestro lugar en el mundo: y esto (por ejemplo) tiene mucho que ver también con las políticas económicas referidas al tema de la austeridad (que cada país mire por si mismo), del cual ahora se está habla tanto en Europa… Como decía, nada es por casualidad.

Pues resulta que ahora los gatos no están sólo merodeando por casa o por las calles, ahora los gatos están por todas partes demostrando (el o la que lo lleva puesto); que sabe cuál es su lugar, sabe a que grupo pertenece, sabe a dónde va y lo más importante: qué quiere.

Vamos, que en el momento actual cuando todo parece ponerse en contra nuestra, nosotros nos ponemos un gato encima y le decimos al mundo: yo puedo. Porque somos autosuficientes, absolutamente capaces de encontrar soluciones y sabemos valernos por nosotros mismos.

Encontrarás cientos de ejemplos de ítems estampados y con forma de animales pero sobretodo de gatos mires donde mires.
