Constantly surrounded by leathers that tell stories of his life, his French roots, his second home in New Zealand, his beloved Morocco, Ibiza and now Bali. His style is simply indescribable, but I guarantee you that his talent has a touch of what Dalí also had… Take it as you like. His jewelry, handbags, belts and shoes are entirely made of high quality leather often topped with gold, silver and precious stones. More than a jeweler we may consider him an artist, both in his creations and lifestyle as for his powerful personality.
His home is literally an extension of his art once again of indescribable style, but overall with quite consonant meaning. A cluster of independent houses that communicate with each other and a lifestyle similar to an artist family’s commune (as he, his children and grandchildren are artists), in a way that only he can create. Large rooms with its own clima, like his bedroom with a fun slide that drives him directly to a central pool. Unique details that can only be understood by openminded people such as for instance his lucky charm: a white dissected baby goat with two heads from Morocco, his white twins cats, or his engraved brand framed on the wall, which is a radiography of his skull.
Perhaps the best way to understand his job is trying to understand him and his personality, because both have the secret of eternal youth. Each designed piece exudes strength and tells a story that in the end it becomes you and teaches you. Concentrated wisdom without looking for fame or leadership but ideology, self-sufficiency and free soul. Currently the most authentic creator I’ve ever met, the most knowledgeable one and less showing off person.
Although I liked all of his creations, I bought only one of his pieces. I chose it because I felt that piece was the one for me but I left a part of me on the other ones. I’ve seen, smelled, touched and admired every design that his hands have made and he explained with care and detail each material he has used and the meaning of each one. His creations have no age or gender, but the trick is that customers do not choose them, since them are the ones to choose you.
When I left his house more than two hours had passed without realizing. To thank my visit he gave me a little brooch with lips shape made of silver to put them in a special place that just me I will know. He also gave me a big hug that I had and still I have to control myself not to break in tears whenever I remember that moment.
Appart from his website I will not give any other contact detail of him… since I know he does not seek or want any social recognition. A smart way to get away from trash copies and fashonistas who only buy and wear items to show off in front of others.
– How and when did you start with the design of jewelry? Ten years ago, when I decided to settle in Bali.
– Your style is just indescribable… How do you define it? Some people have included me in the Gothic style, but I believe primitive-futurist style talks a lot more about me.
– What inspires you? An idea or concept that appears in a flash, sometimes a simple idea developed from my imagination, a mixture of culture and art. It is a process of personal realization, taste and humor.
– Who are you designing for?, Who is your audience? Whoever that resonates with it. My work is conventionally unconventional and appeals to the widest range. Elegance also takes care of it.
– Your children are also artists… What advice would you give to them? You can not say to children or people in general what to do or to be, just an example makes it possible.
– I see you also use lots of jewelry but… What’s the meaning of wearing a mini crocodile hand with ring hanging on the neck? The mini crocodile hand is something totally unexpected, winner, something that gets distracted, elegant and beautiful at the same time.
– Getting to know your home is such an experience… What’s the point to have a fun slide in your bedroom window? Try it when you wake up.
Probablemente estará estirado en su hamaca observando el buda (con alas) a causa de extrema felicidad. Siempre rodeado de pieles que cuentan la historia de su vida, sus raíces francesas, su segundo hogar en Nueva Zelanda, su querido Marruecos, Ibiza y su Bali actual. Su estilo es simplemente indefinible, pero te aseguro que su talento tiene pinceladas de lo que también poseía Dalí… Entiéndelo como quieras. Sus joyas, bolsos, cinturones y calzado están íntegramente fabricados en piel de máxima calidad y casi siempre rematados en oro, plata y piedras preciosas. Más que un joyero se le podría considerar un artista tanto por sus creaciones y su estilo de vida, como por su potente personalidad.
Su hogar es una prolongación de su arte una vez más de estilo indescriptible, pero en conjunto con significado absolutamente consonante. Un conglomerado de casas independientes que se comunican y una vida cercana a una comuna familiar de artistas (él, sus hijos y nietos), como sólo él sabe crear. Amplias estancias con vida propia, como su habitación con tobogán incluido que va a dar directamente a la piscina central. Detalles únicos sólo entendibles por algunos como su amuleto de la suerte: una cría de cabra blanca de Java disecada y con dos cabezas, sus dos gatos blancos gemelos; o el gravado de su marca enmarcado en su estudio que es, nada más y nada menos, que la radiografía de su cráneo.
Quizás la mejor manera de entender su trabajo es intentando entender su persona y su personalidad, porque ambas poseen el secreto de la juventud eterna. Cada pieza que diseña emana su fuerza, cuenta una historia, se convierte en tuya y te enseña. Sabiduría concentrada sin afán de fama ni protagonismo, ideología autosuficiente y de alma libre. Hoy por hoy el creador más auténtico que he conocido, el que más sabe y el que conscientemente menos aparenta.
Me llevé sólo una pieza suya, la escogí porque sentí que esa era la mía y sin quererlo dejé una parte de mi en todas las demás. Vi, olí, toqué y admiré cada creación que sus manos han fabricado y él mismo me explicó con detalle el material y significado de cada una. Sus diseños no tienen edad ni sexo; pero es que tampoco sus clientes los escogen, por que son ellos los que te escogen a ti.
Cuando me fui de su casa habían pasado más de dos horas sin darme cuenta; y en agradecimiento a mi visita, me regaló unos labios de plata para ponerlos en un lugar especial que sólo yo supiera, y dos abrazos tan fuertes y profundos que tuve y tengo que contenerme para no romper a llorar cada vez que lo recuerdo. No daré dirección, ni página web, ni teléfono… por que sé que él no busca ni quiere reconocimiento social. Una forma inteligente de alejarse de las copias basura y de los fashonistas de turno, que sólo compran y visten para los demás.
– ¿Cómo y cuándo empezaste con el diseño de joyas? Hace diez años, cuando decidí asentarme en Bali.
– Tu estilo es para mi indescriptible… ¿Tú cómo lo definirías? Me han llegado a incluir en el estilo gótico, pero creo que lo primitivo-futurista habla mucho de mi.
– ¿En qué te inspiras a la hora de crear? Una idea o concepto que aparece en un flash, a veces una simple idea que se desarrolla a partir de mi imaginación, una mezcla de cultura y técnica. Es un proceso de materialización de la personalidad, de gusto y de humor.
– ¿Para quién diseñas?, ¿Quién es tu público? Para quienesquiera que resuene en ella. Mi trabajo es convencionalmente no-convencional y apela a la más amplia gama. También la elegancia se encarga de ello.
– Tus hijos también son artistas… ¿Qué consejos les das? No se puede decir a los niños o a las personas en general lo que se debe hacer o ser, sólo dar ejemplo lo hace posible.
– Veo que tú también utilizas joyas pero… ¿Qué significa la pezuña de cocodrilo con anillo incluido que llevas en el cuello como collar? La mini mano de cocodrilo es algo totalmente inesperado, algo que consigue distraer, elegante y bello a la vez, ganador.
– Conocer tu casa es toda una experiencia… ¿Porqué en la ventana de tu habitación tienes un tobogán? Pruébalo cuando te despiertes.
