Maybe -just like me- you have not finished or started the year as you would like… But be sure that ‘what does not kill you makes you stronger’ and the truth is that it takes much, much more to finish with me. And why do I speak like this about myself?
Because today I want to mention an unbelievable and unfortunate fact at the same time, as the well-known Oxford Dictionary has chosen and justified! the word “selfie” as the word of the year 2013, explaining that this word, which first appeared in 2002 in an internet forum in Australia, has gone from being a minority to be widespread, and is estimated to be used within English speakers (even those who just speak English to say, “shopping” ), has increased by 17,000% in the last year. What kind of world are we living in?, and What kind of new is this one to be display on the cover of EVERY single newspapers in the world? The dictionary explains that, the word “selfie” is used to denote “a picture of ourselfs, usually made with a ‘smartphone’ or a ‘webcam’ to be posted in a web of social media, social network (Instagram, twitter, Facebook… ) etcetera”.
If we would devoted our efforts with the same momentum and passion to make the world know about this stupid word (to promote other issues), certainly the world will be better. What crazy world! Is this the BIG news of the day worldwide? I feel glad that I made mine the quote ‘the best is yet to come’ on this muymia site; because apparently seen, I don’t want to think what can be the worst. (Dear and respected reader, today more than ever I would love to know your opinion).
Puede que como yo, no hayas acabado ni empezado el año como desearías… Pero ten por seguro que ‘lo que no te mata te hace más fuerte’ y la verdad es que hace falta mucho, mucho más para acabar conmigo. ¿Y por qué hablo así de mi misma?
Porque hoy quiero hacer mención a un hecho increíble a la par que lamentable, ya que el archiconocido diccionario Oxford a escogido ¡y justificado! la palabra “selfie”, como la palabra del año; explicando hoy mismo que dicho vocablo, que apareció por primera vez en 2002 en un foro de internet en Australia, ha pasado de ser minoritario a estar muy extendido, y se calcula que su uso entre los angloparlantes (incluso los que no saben inglés más que para decir: “shopping”), ha aumentado un 17.000 % en el último año. ¿Pero en qué mundo vivimos y qué clase de noticia es ésta para que aparezca en las páginas de TODOS los diarios del mundo? Según el diccionario inglés, la palabra “selfie” se utiliza para denominar “una fotografía que uno toma de sí mismo, normalmente con un ‘smartphone’ o ‘webcam’, y que se cuelga en una web de medios de comunicación social, redes sociales (Instagram, twitter, Facebook…) y demás”.
Si dedicáramos nuestros esfuerzos con tanta ímpetu y pasión como en destacar y hacer saber al mundo sobre tan estúpida palabra, el mundo sin duda, iría algo mejor. ¡Qué mundo de locos! ¿Y esta es la GRAN noticia del día en el mundo? Suerte que he hecho mía la frase ‘lo mejor está aún por venir’, porque visto lo visto, no quiero ni pensar qué será lo peor. La palabra del año! Estamos apañados,ahora cada vez que haga algo por mi misma,poner una lavadora,vestirme,maquillarme y decirselo al vecino del cuarto igual me surge una nueva palabra para todo ello y triunfo en mi comunidad de vecinos!!!!! Nunca se sabe,pero visto lo visto cualquier cosa es posible.
