Architecture and Fashion have real something in common…
1) Please describe yourself in one sentence: A big dreamer with both hands in action.
2) When and Why did you start with jewelry & Nefelia? I started designing jewelry one year ago, having the drive to place a creative thought into construction under a human, wearable scale. Jewelry happened spontaneously, without the intention or the knowledge of the specific product.
3) Your style has to do with the mixture of your architecture and fashion studies. Please tell me more. It is always the same dream. I design with the knowledge of an architect, dreaming of objects that inevitably represent my background.I design a piece the same way that I design a building. With accuracy, precision, thinking of it as a plan and section at the same time. I see how it functions as a whole, how the light is being reflected through it .Also what is interesting in designing jewelry is that it reflects my mood. I have pieces that reflect me being in love, or feeling fun or being a constructive architect…
4) Lately many architects have change into the Fashion world… Why do you think could be the reason? And in your case? Architecture are amazing studies. They make you think in a creative way that cannot only be represented through designing buildings but also through designing objects,interiors, clothes, jewelry, anything. Studying architecture make you want to be a part of the world. Also Architecture is a slow procedure, especially when it involves construction as well. Fashion is a way that someone can be creative and see the results from paper to reality fast. And this is one part of the story… Greece at the moment as many countries suffer from economic crisis. It would be a lie not to admit that many people turn around their minds to being creative under other professional fields. This is definitely a reason as well.
5) Please define (your brand) Nefelia in one sentence: Architectural fashion.
6) All your pieces have a 3D shape… Why? It is because i can’t stop from designing a piece as an entity. I like viewing it in many angles.
7) There are many jewelry brands in the world… What makes Nefelia to be different from the rest? Nefelia jewelry is different because my knowledge of designing jewelry is zero. Ok, I have learned how to use my tools and the different parts that make an object to function as a jewel, but I could easily interpret my designs into something else. Nefelia jewelry is not only jewelry but a state of mind, a way of expressing my knowledge and expanding it.
8) Your AW 2013 collection had a colorist kitty-trend touches… Does this have something to do with the catmania trend I found out in London? I had no idea of the cat-mania you refer to! AW collection has one design with a cat+heart drop. I just like cats, that’s all. I don’t follow trends.
9) What can you tell me about your SS new collection? My SS collection 2014 is full of candy colors. I am nostalgic of ice-cream colours from my childhood, and I use them a lot in this collection. Not as much fluorescent this time. As far as design is concerned I am obsessed with anchors lately! I want all girls to wear a Nefelia anchor with their bikinis!

11) What are the future plans for Nefelia? Next steps, etc… I just came back from Thessaloniki in Greece, where i had my first solo exhibition in a gallery, and I wish to show it to other places in the world. Unique jewelry together with an amazing photoshooting and a great video were combined with great success! Making videos for showing my work is another late obsession. Berlin video fashion festival and San Fransisco video fashion festival are the next goals… Wait and see!

¿Cuándo y Por qué empezaste con la joyería y Nefelia? Empecé a diseñar joyas hace un año, con el objetivo de plasmar un pensamiento creativo en construcción con un ser humano y que fuese llevable. Dedicarme a la joyería fue algo espontáneo, sin ninguna pretensión inicial e incluso sin conocimiento del producto específico.
Tu estilo es el resultado de la mezcla de tus estudios en arquitectura y moda. Por favor, cuéntame más. Siempre es el mismo sueño. Yo diseño con los conocimientos de un arquitecto, soñando con los objetos que inevitablemente representan mis antecedentes. Diseño cada pieza de la misma manera que diseño un edificio. Con exactitud, precisión, pienso en ello como una planta y una sección a la vez. Veo la forma en que funciona como un todo y cómo la luz se refleja a través de él. También lo que es interesante en el diseño de joyas es que refleja mi estado de ánimo. Tengo piezas que reflejan cuando estoy enamorada, o divirtiéndome o cuando me pongo en plan arquitecta constructiva…
Últimamente muchos arquitectos han derivado al mundo de la moda… ¿Por qué crees que pasa esto? ¿Y en tu caso? Los estudios de arquitectura son increíbles. Te hacen pensar de una manera creativa que no sólo se puede representar mediante el diseño de edificios, sino también mediante el diseño de objetos, interiores, ropa, joyas, cualquier cosa! Estudiar arquitectura te provoca tener ganas de ser parte del mundo. La arquitectura requiere un procedimiento lento, especialmente durante la parte de construcción. En la moda en cambio, alguien puede ser creativo y ver los resultados del papel a la realidad rápidamente. Y esta es una parte de la historia… Actualmente Grecia, al igual que muchos otros países, sufre crisis económica. Sería una mentira no admitir que muchas personas dan la vuelta a sus ideas para ser creativo bajo otras áreas profesionales más eficaces. Y esto es así.

Todas tus piezas tienes una forma tridimensional… ¿Por qué? No puedo evitar tratar el diseño de una pieza como una entidad. Me gusta verla en muchos ángulos.
Hay muchas marcas de la joyería en el mundo… ¿Qué hace que Nefelia sea diferente del resto? Nefelia es diferente porque mi conocimiento de diseño de joyas es cero. De acuerdo, he aprendido a usar mis herramientas y las distintas partes que conforman un objeto para que funcione como una joya, pero podría interpretar fácilmente mis diseños en cualquier otra cosa. Las joyas de Nefelia no son sólo joyas sino que son también un estado mental, una forma de expresar mi conocimiento y ampliarlo.
Tu colección OI 2013 tenía un toque colorista con reminiscencias sobre los gatos… ¿Tiene esto algo que ver con la tendencia Catmania que yo misma descubrí en Londres? ¡No tenía ni idea de que ahora el gato era tendencia! Mi colección OI tiene un diseño con un gato y un corazón. Pero el motivo es que me gusta los gatos y los corazones, eso es todo. Yo no sigo las tendencias.
¿Qué me puedes decir acerca de tu nueva colección PV? Mi colección PV 2014 está llena de colores como caramelos. Últimamente echaba de menos los colores de los helados de mi infancia, y los he utilizado mucho para esta colección. Esta vez he reducido un poco el uso de colores fluorescentes. Y en lo que a diseño se refiere… Últimamente estoy obsesionada con las anclas. Quiero que todas las chicas lleven un ancla Nefelia con sus bikinis este verano!

¿Cuáles son los planes de futuro para Nefelia? Próximos pasos, etc. Acabo de regresar de Tesalónica en Grecia, donde tuve mi primera exposición individual en una galería y ahora me gustaría exportar esa misma idea a otros lugares del mundo. Joyas únicas, junto con una sesión de fotos increíble y un video. ¡Todo junto se combinó con un gran éxito! Hacer videos para mostrar mi trabajo es otra de mis recientes obsesiones. El festival de video de moda en Berlín y en San Fransisco son mis próximos objetivos… ¡Espera y verás!
