Berlin is poor but sexy

Berlin combines the culture of new York, the traffic system of Tokyo, the nature of Seattle, and the historical treasures of, well, Berlin. Hiroshi Montomura U.S., Law professor, 2004

Beyond its complex history, the remains of the two Germanys, the long years of Nazi dictatorship, and the reunification still visible on the streets of the city; Berlin is known as well as a cultural and artistical center, it’s one of the most influential in the political arena of the European Union and in 2006 was chosen as Creative City by UNESCO.

Its industrial architecture blends with the majesty of the buildings of the past, and the breadth and grandeur of the streets endow this cold and warm city an interesting mix that hooks you.

It is a bustling city with multicultural incessant movement of people where there is always something to discover and visit. The selection of hotels it is very wide as well, but definitely I recommend BaxPax Hotels/ Hostels located in the three most known neighborhoods of the city.

During the day the earlier history prevails drenching every step, but at night leisure extends throughout the city resulting in not one but nine hubs: Mitte, Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, Schöneberg, Prenzlauerberg…

It is full of cafes and restaurants serving more than pretzels and frankfurts as New Deli Yoga in Falckensteinstrasse 37 where Chai Latte is one of their specialties; Oliv Café in Münzstrasse 8 for great breakfasts open every day of the week until 19:00 except Sunday until 18:00; healthy market food at Joris Gesundes Handwerk, the delicious and delicate Japanese restaurant Goko in Neue Schönhauser 12, Neue Odessa Bar for a great afterwork with friends located at Torstraße 89; without forgetting the amazing and highly recommended Barcomi’s run by Cynthia Barcomi to enjoy (without any doubt) of the best Brunch throughout the city.

For those who can not travel without a shopping evening… Nothing better than walking through Kreuzberg neighborhood for vintage clothing or independent designers as Chaos In Form offers in Falckensteinstrasse 46. Or better around Mitte neighborhood where you will find mass-market brands as H&M, Mango, Zara, Urban Outfitters, Bikkembergs, All Saints, 14oz… And concept stores as Jacuzzi located in Rosenthaler Strasse 19 where you can find every single model of Dr.Denim JeansMakers, Cheap Monday, Edwin, Nudie Jeans, Denim Demon Jeans or Patrick Mohr… As well as ultra-modern, trendy and visionary clothes of (for example) the famous French brand ElevenParis.

Summarizing… Berlin has nothing to envy to any of the great capitals of the world, because basically, it is one of them!

Más allá de su compleja historia, de los restos de las dos alemanias, los años de dictadura Nazi, la reunificación… Aún visible por las calles de la ciudad, Berlín es una ciudad mundial y un centro cultural y artístico de primer nivel. Es una de las ciudades más influyentes en el ámbito político de la Unión Europea y en el año 2006 fue elegida Ciudad Creativa por la Unesco.

Su arquitectura industrial se mezcla con la majestuosidad de los edificios de épocas anteriores, y la amplitud y grandiosidad de las calles dotan a esta fría y cálida ciudad de una interesante mezcla que te engancha.

Es una ciudad activa, con movimiento incesante de gentes multicultural donde siempre ocurre algo y donde siempre hay lugares que descubrir y visitar. La oferta de hoteles es como todo allí muy amplia, pero sin duda recomiendo los Hoteles/Hostales BaxPax situados en tres de los barrios de la ciudad.

De día la historia de épocas anteriores prevalece y te empapa a cada paso, pero de noche la oferta de ocio se extiende por toda la ciudad dando lugar a, no uno sino a nueve centros neurálgicos: Mitte, Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, Schöneberg, Prenzlauerberg…

Está lleno de cafés y restaurantes que sirven mucho más que pretzels y frankfurts como New Deli Yoga en Falckensteinstrasse 37 donde el Chai Latte es una de sus especialidades; Oliv Café en Münzstrasse 8 para grandes desayunos y meriendas que abre todos los días de la semana hasta las 19:00 menos el domingo hasta las 18:00; comida de mercado saludable en Joris Gesundes Handwerk; el delicioso y delicado restaurante japonés Goko en Neue Schönhauser 12, Neue Odessa Bar para tomar unas copas después del trabajo entre amigos situado en Torstraße 89, sin olvidar el increíble y altamente recomendable Barcomi’s regentado por Cynthia Barcomi para disfrutar (sin duda alguna) del mejor Brunch (desayuno-almuerzo) de toda la ciudad.

Para los que no saben viajar sin pasar un tarde de shopping… Nada mejor que pasear entrecalles por el barrio de Kreuzberg si buscas ropa vintage o de diseñadores independientes como lo que ofrece Chaos In Form en Falckensteinstrasse 46. O mejor por el barrio de Mitte donde se encuentran conocidas marcas tipo H&M, Mango, Zara, Urban Outfitters, Bikkembergs, All Saints, 14OZ… Y tiendas de diseño como Jacuzzi situada en Rosenthaler Strasse 19 donde encontrarás todos los modelos de Dr.Denim JeansMakers, Cheap Monday, Edwin, Nudie Jeans, Denim Demon Jeans o Patrick Mohr… Así como prendas ultra-modernas, trendy y visionarias de (por ejemplo) la conocida marca francesa ElevenParis.

Resumiendo… Berlin nada tiene que envidiar a ninguna de las grandes capitales del mundo, básicamente, por es una de ellas!
