Josep Abril (on the road)

Esta entrevista ha sido íntegramente realizada circulando por las calles de Barcelona. Obviamente yo iba de copiloto, mientras Josep conducía la motocicleta. Por el camino hablamos de lo bonita qué es Barcelona, del buen día que hace hoy… y de algunos temas interesantes que podrían llenar páginas y páginas.

This interview has been literally made circulating through the streets of Barcelona. Obviously I was at the back sit, while Josep was ridding the motorbike. On the way we were talking about How beautiful is Barcelona, What a wonderful day… and lots of very interesting matters that could fill pages and pages.

1. ¿En qué estás trabajando? / What are you doing these days?

Estoy empezando nuevos proyectos que tienen que ver con el mundo de la decoración.

I am starting new projects related to decoration.

2. Resume en una palabra tu trayectoria profesional hasta ahora: / Please summarize in one word your professional career until now:

Aventura.

Adventure.

3. ¿Con qué vas a sorprendernos en P/V 2011-2012? / What are you going to surprise us with in S/S 2011-2012?

Aún no lo sé.

I don’t know yet.

4. ¿Qué es lo mejor de ser diseñador de moda Hombre? / What’s the best thing of being a men fashion designer?

Que pocas veces te preguntan la tendencia.

That people rarely ask me What’s the trend.

5. ¿Cómo ves la industria de la moda en la actualidad? / What do you think about fashion industry nowadays?

Sabe mal ver cómo las grandes cadenas se lo comen todo. Quedan pocos espacios.

It is gloomy to see how big chains are eating everything. There are very few spaces left.

6. Crisis es… / Crisis is…

Oportunidad.

Chance.

7. Hablando de crisis… ¿Cómo te ha afectado? / Talking about crisis… How has this affected you?

Constantemente tengo que estar replanteándome todo.

Constantly I have to rethink everything .

8. ¿Y en qué te ha beneficiado? / How did you benefit from it?

En encontrar nuevas oportunidades y cosas diferentes.

Finding new chances and different things.

9. Un sueño aún por cumplir (profesionalmente hablando): / Tell me a dream still to be fulfilled (professionally speaking):

Diseñar para una marca de lujo.

To design for a luxury brand.

10. Un reto superado (profesionalmente hablando): / Tell me a challenge already acomplished (professionaly speaking):

Desfilar en París.

Running a catwalk in Paris.

11. ¿Qué es lo que más te preocupa a nivel diseño? / What worries you the most to a design level?

Que todo tenga un sentido y sobre todo no hacer payasadas. Entiendo el diseño como la solucion a un problema, la mejor y la mas bella.

Everything has to have a meaning, trying not to do stupidities. I understand design as the best and more beautiful solution of a problem.

12. ¿Por qué siempre te ha interesado más la moda para hombre que para mujer? / Why have you always been interested in men fashion more than women fashion?

Me tengo tomadas las medidas. En realidad… me vi inmerso en ello casi sin darme cuenta, y supongo que también porque siempre quise hacerme mi propia ropa.

I know my measures very well. Actually… I got involved in men fashion almost without noticing it, and I suppose because I’ve always wanted to make my own clothes.

13. ¿Qué no puede faltar en ninguna de tus colecciones? / What cannot be missed on any of your collections?

El color azul Tuareg.

The Tuareg blue.

14. Generalizando… ¿Cómo ves el futuro? / Generally speaking… How do you see the future?

Incierto. Nada es seguro y eterno… lo que sabias ya no sirve, cualquier acción puede ser la mejor o la peor. De pronto todos estamos descubriendo que las cosas pueden ir a menos, aunque pienso que esto tiene que tener algo de bueno…

Uncertain. Nothing is sure or eternal.. what you knew before, it no longer works now. Any action can be the best or the worst. Suddenly we are all discovering that things can go less, but I think this must have something good…

15. Un consejo (como diseñador) para hacer el día a día más llevadero: / Give me an advice (as a designer) to make my every day easier:

Intentar escoger y hacer sólo las cosas que te gusten.

Trying to choose and only doing the things you like.

16. ¿Y (como persona)? / And as (a person)?

Ser consciente de que al ser tú mismo, si te equivocas es por tu culpa. Eso te libera el espíritu. Si te responsabilizas de tus errores, puedes entenderlos como un aprendizaje.

Be aware to be yourself, so if you’re wrong is your fault. That makes free your spirit. If you are responsible of your mistakes, then you can understand them as a learning experience.

17. ¿Qué es lo mejor de vivir y trabajar en Barcelona? / What is the best of  living and working in Barcelona?

La medida de la ciudad; tiene una escala muy humana.

The size of the city, it has a very human scale.

18. Y si no estuvieras en Barcelona, estarías… / If you wouldn’t be in Barcelona, you would be in…

Supongo que estaría en París.

I suppose I would be in Paris.
